Were these residents counted in that year?
These are projections for June 30 of each year, based on Census 2018. This page uses the July 30, 2025 update, DANE–Medellín contract 4600104690 of 2025. Choosing a year changes the estimate year, not the release, and does not turn a projection into a live reading.
What do totals and percentages cover?
The official workbook publishes 25 urban and rural components. GeoSAT sums components with the same district code into 16 urban districts and 5 corregimientos. These 21 districts reconcile exactly with the published municipal total for each of the 13 years. Filtering the table changes neither Medellín’s total nor the denominator for city shares. Corregimientos include their urban-center components, so their sum is not the rural-population total.
What does the age pyramid show?
The official sex and five-year age tables publish 21 groups, from 0–4 to 100 and over. GeoSAT retains the source’s male and female categories without inferring gender identity. Both sexes and all ages sum to each district’s total in every year. We also reconcile each age group against the municipal control and the separate official sex totals.
In percentage mode, each bar divides people of that sex and age by the district’s entire population in that year. The 2018 outlines use the 2018 total. Differences between shares are percentage points. Figures compare age distributions, not cohorts of the same people. The 0–14, 15–64 and 65+ ranges are statistical groupings, not measures of employment or economic dependence.
How should change be interpreted?
Absolute change = selected-year population minus 2018 population. Percentage change = absolute change divided by 2018 population, multiplied by 100. Share = district population divided by Medellín’s total for the same year. Percentages are rounded to one decimal; the figures alone do not explain migration, births or the causes of change.
