Frequently asked questions

What do net and gross enrollment rates mean?

Net rates compare enrollment in the level within its theoretical age band with the population in that age band; gross rates include enrollment at all ages in the numerator, using the same level-specific denominator. There are ten indicators: net and gross for total (ages 5–16), transition (age 5), primary (6–10), lower secondary (11–14) and upper secondary (15–16). These are municipal aggregate rates, not student counts, available places, current operation or school locations.

How do I choose an indicator and compare years?

The query opens total net enrollment in 2024 as a historical reference. Use the indicator selector and year control to explore 2011–2024; in Thematic maps, inspect one trend and its annual table at a time. Values are already percentages: they are not multiplied by 100, capped at 100, added across levels or recalculated using the separate population layer. Nulls keep gaps in the chart and appear without a value, not as zero. Differences are percentage points; changes in population basis or methodology can affect comparisons, without a verified uniform population release.

Does the rate change by neighborhood or when I move the map?

No. The layer contains one record for the whole municipality. Panning or zooming does not allocate the rate among neighborhoods, parcels or intersected areas, or identify schools. The IGAC reference polygon retains its provenance and does not reconstruct municipal boundaries for each year.

What are the source, date and license?
