Frequently asked questions

What does “Electricity, sewerage, gas and internet · 2018 Census” count?

Housing services · 2018 Census: occupied dwellings with people present in DANE’s 2018 Census, with and without electricity, sewerage, natural gas through the public network, and fixed or mobile internet. Each service shows both counts and its own sum; these are not people, subscribers or all properties.

Can service bases be compared or added?

Services are not added as unique dwellings and no common denominator is used. Gas and internet sums differ; the gas dictionary allows “Not reported”, but the layer only provides with/without counts. Categories are not reconstructed by subtraction, no rates are calculated and nulls are not converted to zero. The seven published records have all eight original counts; the national catalog records incomplete cases.

Does internet mean MinTIC accesses or current availability?

No. The census asks about fixed or mobile internet in the dwelling in 2018; MinTIC counts accesses reported by operators in another period. Neither figure confirms service available at an address today. Census gas refers to the public network, not cylinders. The municipal map neither represents networks nor allocates counts to neighborhoods.

Where do the data come from and how can they be reused?

From four municipal DANE Geoportal layers for the 2018 Census, retrieved on 6 October 2026. Layer links include all four services, definitions, method and license. DANE, current IGAC reference geometry and the GeoSAT adaptation are attributed under CC BY 4.0. Retrieval does not update the census or reconstruct 2018 boundaries.
